AGONY OF EMPLOYEES AND TRADE UNIONS IN KRAGUJEVAC CEASED – 4300 EMPLOYEES OF ’’ZET’’ SIGNED THE STATEMENTS ON SEVERANCE PAYS, IN THE AMOUNT OF €250 PER YEAR OF SERVICE
’’EVIL’’ OFFER, HOWEVER, ACCEPTED
Kragujevac, August 30, 2007
Employees and unionist activities in Kragujevac ended by ’’ZET’’ employees acceptance of Serbian Government’s offer of €250 stimulation severance pay per year of service for each employee. Lists of employees who came out for this program have already been forwarded to Belgrade, and it is expected that payments will start as from August 29, 2007. As stated earlier by Minister Dinkic, the money needed for employees payment was provided and it would be paid to employees accounts existing in ’’ZET’’.
Evaluating the results of all unionist activities, the MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ stressed a satisfactory level of cooperation that existed among trade unions, and €250 per year of service is a sum which we can hardly fight for in some other companies being in similar situation as employees of ’’ZET’’. There were attempts and proposals several times by colleagues of the Autonomous Trade Union to meet the requirements through radical actions, but it turned out that their evaluations were groundless and that they wanted to entangle other unions and employees of ’’ZET’’ in the ’’path with no return.’’ All trade unions and employees of ’’Zastava’’ have to set straight to the future and work, and unionist adventurers are to be left far from workers and factories.
It is encouraging that the executive management of ’’Zastava’’ didn’t waste time, but a business deal was concluded during these protests for the sale of 1200 ’’Zastava 10’’ cars. Buyers interest in some companies of ’’Zastava’’ Group is increasing and it is quite certain that those companies will be sold. There are certain ideas that employees, presently working in ’’Zastava’’ and taken over from ’’ZET’’, should get a permanent job, and it would thereby be confirmed that ’’ZET’’ closing down wasn’t a disaster for the people who were in it, but a new start, if an individual accepted this.
Significant funds to be received by ’’ZET’’ employees must not be spent for buying household appliances, cars and similarly. Thirty million Euro that shall be paid out as severance pay is a sum that must be invested ’’reasonably’’ and not be spent.
For this reason, we are pleased, because of the statement given by the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development that everything necessary will be done in order that the funds for stimulating direct investments and favorable credits are allocated to Kragujevac region, the result of which would be creating new jobs. The ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union will take necessary actions together with the National Employment Service in order that the moneys from severance pays is used for employment and starting some business.
- ’’One can give different judgments and comment on all the events that were going on during the last month, but the ’’Nezavisnost’’ Union considers that proper judgment can be given only by those who were active participants, who assumed responsibility for employees future and could objectively perceive all the circumstances that were changing all the time. For some other actions, we inform other trade unions and especially the Autonomous Metal Workers Union of Serbia and Kragujevac that they cannot gain trust of members and be respected by its members, other trade union members and workers of Serbia by populism, ’’revolutionary’’ statements and poor assessments. The MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ ends, with this addressing, the events associated with ’’ZET’’ and focuses on the future and ’’Zastava’’ Group, expecting privatization challenges, says Dragan Matic, President of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’.
