NEGOTIATIONS FOR CONCLUDING A SPECIAL - BRANCH COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT FOR METAL INDUSTRY (S-BCA) CONTINUED

INVESTIGATING THE SITUATION AND REACTIONS

Belgrade, October 6, 2006.

The negotiating teams of the Serbian Employers’ Union (SEU) and representative Unions – MWBU “Nezavisnost” and Autonomous Metal Workers’ Union of Serbia (AMWUS) had a meeting on Friday, October 6, 2006, at which they discussed about concluding a
Special – Branch Collective Agreement, in the premises of the Employers’ Union in Belgrade. During continuation of these negotiations, attitudes and opinions were stated by both sides on the proposed text of S-BCA. The negotiating sides were mutually informed and asked why they thought that the proposed text of S-BCA should be or shouldn’t be in conformity with the proposed solutions.

The Union’s negotiating team defended the position that it was necessary to determine labor relations by the S-BCA, starting from the fact that minimum rights are determined by this Agreement, and that Employers and Unions in a company can maximize them depending on a company’s economic power.

The Employers’ negotiating team stated the opinion that extensive rights were given to employees in the proposal of the text and that such S-BCA “cost” a lot the Employers’ side. Besides different positions and opinions when concluding this “round” of negotiations, it was agreed that negotiations should be continued on Wednesday, October 12, 2006.

At the beginning of this session, the Serbian Employers’ Union (SEU) forwarded
the “authorization for negotiations and conclusion of the Collective Agreement”
