SPLIT IN “ASNS” DUE TO TRADE UNION PRIVATIZATION AND FINANCIAL MISUSES OF RANKA SAVIC AND DRAGAN MILOVANOVIC

IT’S OVER WITH “ASNS” – THREATENING WITH FISTS AND PISTOLS

Belgrade, August 11, 2007
The expelled Vice-Presidents of “ASNS” together with a few regional representatives of “ASNS” presented some previous dishonorable acts at the Press Conference yesterday, which took place in “Media Center”. The current president of “ASNS”, Ranka Savic, was accused of usurping about 6 million dinars during the purchase of coal, organized by “ASNS” and former Minister of Labor, now “ASNS” “manager”, through “Kolubara” mine. We remind that “ASNS” was at one time the exclusive distributor of 200 thousand tons of crude coal, and that was an agreement on the largest amount in history, signed between “Kolubara” with some distributors, and performed exclusively through “ASNS” headquarters. The price of coal per ton was Din. 958,80, which was a deal worth approximately 200 million dinars. Ranka Savic explained at that time that 3% of the deal goes to “ASNS” headquarters, which amounted to approx. 6 million dinars. Without counting those 6 million dinars, a question was posed about 6 million dinar commission and total debt to “Kolubara” and transporters was estimated at over ten million dinars, and it should have been settled by “ASNS” members which didn’t order the coal. The expelled unionists claimed that Milovanovic has recently fired at Savic and that he even broke her front tooth with a pistol handle, but everyone was silent about this for unknown reasons.

-“Savic and Milovanovic threaten trade union members both physically and with notices of dismissal. Milovanovic uses company directors for this, which he appointed at the time he was Minister of Labor, and in this way exerts pressure on members and inspires fear in them”, said Milan Petric, president of “ASNS” Branch: Specialists in public works and transport, stating that Milovanovic even threatened his family. Ranka Savic was criticized, because an exclusive Laborite Party’s space was paid from union’s membership dues, the president of which Party is Milovanovic, as well as pay-off of a loan for three cars belonging to Laborite Party. The sole space in which the “ASNS” works and performs its activities is paid €5.000/month by union members.

The Session of the “ASNS” Leading Committee wasn’t attended by Vice-Presidents of “ASNS”, because Milovanovic’s security personnel (guards) prevented them in a physical way from entering the conference room in which the meeting was in progress.

-“A LIE THAT RANKA SAVIC CONSTANTLY REPEATS REFERS TO “ASNS” REPRESENTATION AND HER STATEMENT THAT “ASNS” HAS OVER 187.000 MEMBERS. “ASNS” HAS ONLY 30.000 MEMBERS”, STATED ZELJKO VESELINOVIC, EXPELLED PRESIDENT OF “ASNS” METAL WORKERS UNION. Over 20.000 members demand that Milovanovic and Savic have to be dismissed from their positions, and the entire story reminds of an American story about “Bony and Clyde”. Unfortunately, the same story about the number of “ASNS” members was also told until yesterday by recently dismissed president of “ASNS” Metal Workers Union, Zeljko Veselinovic, while he had friendly relations with Milovanovic and Savic.

Veselinovic claims that the Auditing Committee of “ASNS” wasn’t able, for many years, to audit trade union’s financial operations, so that one had doubts about this and that it was only a “peak of an iceberg” of financial misuses. As a response, Branch Unions discontinued payment of membership dues to “ASNS”, and in the opinion of former members, “ASNS” Trade Union is in a “collapse and dying”, says Veselinovic at the end. While dismissed leaders claim that everything has been done contrary to Trade Union Statute, Ranka Savic stated, as the reason of vice-presidents dismissal, the inactivity within the trade union.”

This is a true picture of “ASNS”, their work and relations that Milovanovic and Savic created for years. It is good that there are active members within the trade union which do not accept such a situation, but they themselves participated in and tolerated Milovanovic’s and Savic’s abuses and misuses.

Debts, abuses, pistols and threats should be left to Milovanovic and Savic, because that is the environment they created and to which they got accustomed well, and the trade union should be left to unionists and workers.
