PROJECT OF THE YOUTH SECTION: ’’WELCOME TO GERMANY’’

WILLKOMMEN IN DEUTSCHLAND

Belgrade, May 23. 2007.
The young people in Serbia, compared to persons of the same age from most of the European countries, are in a more unenviable situation. Among other things, this is reflected in the fact that a majority of us have never travelled beyond Serbian borders, and especially not to the EU countries. Taking advantage of chairing a meeting by Germany in the EU in the first half of 2007, the Embassy of the FR of Germany in Belgrade has, in cooperation with the European movement in Serbia, five German Foundations, German Organization for Technical Cooperation and Students’ Network AEGEE, organized a project titled ’’Welcome to Germany’’, which was realized during April and May. Within this project, Germany was visited by approx. 200 secondary-school students and university students from Serbia.

German Foundations: Friedrich Ebert, Friedrich Naumann, Hanns Seidel, Konrad Adenauer and Heinrich Boll, financed the trip for 57 socially active students. Danica Tomasevic, Law School student from Nis, took part in this project, as a representative of the UBU Youth Section and Youth Section of MWBU, but also as a fellowship holder of Friedrich Ebert (FES) Foundation.

During the first three days of visit, fellowship holders of all the Foundations had a joint program in Berlin, which included a visit to the Federal Office, some Departments, Parliament, European Movement, Serbian Embassy, and they had meetings with high government officials – Mr. Joachim Bleicker, director of the Directorate for Western Balkans with the Foreign Office, Mrs. Karin Kortmann, parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Thomas Rachel, parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research.

After group visits and seminars, fellowship holders were disposed by Foundations. FES’s fellowship holders met in Berlin with Mr. Josip Juratovic, member of parliament from the SPD, associate and friend of MWBU, then with Mr. Daner, International Secretary of Young Socialists, representatives of the Young People’s Participation Center and DGB Youth Section (Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund).

German DGB Union has over 6.600.000 members, assigned to 8 branches, of which the Youth Section has more than 500.000 members. The DGB Youth, in addition to its basic task – young people’s training and education, organizes preparations for employment and company co-management, it strives for tuition fee repeal, participates in the international exchange, organizes camps, concerts, anti-fascist demonstrations and anti-war actions.
