STATEMENT OF MWBU ‘’NEZAVISNOST’’ FOR WORKERS OF “MAGNOHROM”

READY TO ENTER NEGOTIATIONS

Belgrade, April 30, 2007
Keeping its promise, made to workers of “Magnohrom”, the representatives of “Nezavisnost” Union talked to Goran Obradovic, director of the Center for privatization process monitoring, and presented to him the present status of employees of ‘’Magnohrom”. The President of MWBU “Nezavisnost”, Dragan Matic, as well as the coordinator of the “Nezavisnost” Union of “Magnohrom”, Jasmina Djikic, stated their opinion that “Global Steel” had to be warned by the Privatization Agency, because it jeopardized the company’s operations and economic status of employees by non-compliance with some sections of the Purchase and Sales Contract, as well as non-observance of the agreement, reached in the negotiations with the Strikers’ Committee of “Magnohrom”.

The director of the mentioned Center, Goran Obradovic, stated a lot of facts resulting from the Purchase and Sales Contract, which did not have legal effect yet, as well as that the Agency monitored the situation, so that it would respond timely in case of violation of the law, breach of the Purchase and Sales Contract and non-observance of the Social Program. The Management of “Magnohrom” and President of the Municipality of Kraljevo conducted the talks with the Agency’s representatives, who were also informed of the Agency’s position concerning “Magnohrom”. After the opinions and arguments, stated by the representatives of “Nezavisnost” Union, the director of the Monitoring Center of the Privatization Agency, promised he would send a letter to “Global Steel”, as it was the only possible and proper way at this time to show the Agency’s interest in the current situation in “Magnohrom”. This warning letter will be to the benefit of employees and Strikers’ Committee, when the negotiations with “Global Steel” representatives are continued. The representatives of “Nezavisnost” Union think that they can find a solution to the problem by an expert approach in the negotiations, to the satisfaction of both the employer and strikers at this time, and make possible the production start-up, as well as regular payment of earnings and fulfillment of obligations under the Purchase and Sales Contract by the employer.

The representatives of “Nezavisnost” Union are willing to enter the negotiations, as an equal partner, together with the Strikers’ Committee, and give their full contribution in order to calm down the situation, it is said at the end of the statement given by Dragan Matic, President of MWBU “Nezavisnost”.
