A VISIT OF MEMBERS OF THE YOUTH SECTION OF MWBU ’’NEZAVISNOST’’ TO COLLEAGUES OF FTM CGT, FRANCE

ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE AND GAINING EXPERIENCE FOR THE FUTURE

Belgrade, March 22, 2007
A group of ten representatives of the Youth Section of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ visited the Metal Workers’ Trade Union of France, FTM CGT, and the Youth Committee of FTM CGT, in the period from March 12 – 16, 2007. The visit has been organized within a good and intensive cooperation of the two unions, FTM CGT and MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’. During a five-day stay in Paris, a delegation of young people of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ had the opportunity to acquire knowledge and gain experience through an informative and ample program which would be useful for them in further union activities.

After visiting the registered Office of CGT and FTM, the colleagues from the young unionist staff, Boris Plazzi and Julien Gorrand informed us about the activities of this unionist staff, their objectives and mode of operations. We presented the activities of the Youth Section of MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ and the MWBU ’’Nezavisnost’’ and the conditions in which our trade union operates (economic situation, young people’s status in Serbia) to the colleagues from the young unionist staff of FTM CGT.

On the second day of the visit, Jean Francois Care told us about the history of unionist movement in France and the history of CGT, and Boris Plazzi presented the system of CGT and FTM organization. On the same day we visited the Showroom of CE and CHSCT and took part in a debate on the subject of social policy and globalization, in which Bernard Thibault, Secretary General of CGT and Guy Ryder (ITUC) also took part.

Colleague Pascal told us about the privatization and the examples of company privatization in France, and Christian Pilichowski told us about the European Union and social policy within the EU. The young people from Serbia had the opportunity to visit the ’’Renault trucks’’ Factory in Lion. The visit to this company included the discussion with trade union representatives, young unionist staff, presentation of ’’Renault trucks’’ by the executive management, as well as a visit to the plants.

There was a lively conversation among the participants concerning the mentioned topics and a great interest was shown in better informing and perceiving the differences and similarities between the two unions. This visit is also important, because of cultural exchange, getting familiar with other country, other culture.

At the end we drew a conclusion that the visit was successful and very useful, and that we would continue cooperation in the future. Young people of both trade unions will exchange information on their plans and activities and make agreements on some more concrete forms of cooperation. We come back from France with a new experience, knowledge, but new friends too. We are grateful to our friends from FTM CGT for a well organized visit and a warm reception, and we hope we will be able to return the hospitality to our friends from the young unionist staff of FTM CGT, as soon as possible.
