WE KNOW THE WAY
Novi Sad, September 20 2008
In the presence of 189 delegates and 30 guests from trade unions throughout Europe and the world the Congress was opened by Negoslav Jovanovic, president of MWBU Nezavisnost. Proceeding in line with the sequence of Congress activities, the Rules of Procedure and Report of the Verification Commission were adopted. Anne Marie Mureau of the IMF was the first to address all those present at the Congress and conveyed regards from all metal workers of the World and the IMF President, Marcello Malentacci. The Congress delegates were also addressed by Zoran Vujovic, President of the CATUS, who indicated that Serbian trade unions were acting and performing various activities in difficult conditions of privatization and transition, and stressed that trade unions had to act in unison in the interest of their members and Serbian Metal Industry. Manfred Anderle, Secretary of Metal and Textile Industry Workers of Austria, Vassil Yanachkov from Bulgaria and others wished all the best to the Congress in order to make right decisions in the interest of overall trade union strengthening. On behalf of the Founders of trade union Nezavisnost all those present were addressed by Branko Miladinovic and Milan Nikolic, hoping that delegates of the VI Congress, as at the previous Congresses, would find the right way for them and for Nezavisnost. The Congress adopted the Report of the Verification Commission and stated that the VI Congress of MWBU Nezavisnost was authorized to perform its work and make decisions. By reviewing and adopting the Rules of Procedure of the VI Congress, as well as the proposed agenda, the first part of the Congress ended, and the Report of Operations of the MWBU Leading Committee was submitted by Dragan Matic, who chaired the Meetings of the Leading Committee in the 4-year Congress period. An integral part of this Report were the Reports submitted by the Womens and Youth Section, as well as by Congress delegates, which were unanimously adopted.
